Supervisors and professionals at the Osram Sylvania manufacturing plant in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, are handling additional duties that require that they meet demanding standards for reports, analyses and other work-related documentation. The organization brought Jim Milliken to the operation for two days of training in English grammar. The program included general sessions to introduce and practice specifics of handling language, plus one-on-one meetings in which individual participants discussed specific needs and applications with the trainer. Grammar is often an obstacle for even the most intelligent and articulate of us. The way we handle - or mishandle - language seriously impacts our ability to do justice to our ideas. We want to be clear and compelling communicators, but we worry about being judged instead by our pronouns and clauses. The workshop eviewed key points of grammar, with some attention to punctuation and style. It included a series of self-assessments of the individuals' skills and provided strategies for continuous improvement. Topics included: Pressing Problems Clinic Definitions & Key Points Grammar & Punctuation Parts of Speech Sentences Paragraphs Conciseness Punctuation Spelling
